This week St. Mark’s volunteers, together with volunteers from Augustana Lutheran Church and Target Store, finished up packing lunches for St Joseph’s summer lunch program. As you can see, we had a great turn out again! This summer we packed a total of 3,200 bags of food that were sent home with kids to assure they had food to eat on the weekends. Thanks to St Joseph’s for letting us be a part of your program. Looking forward to helping out next summer! And thank you to all who helped set up, pack food, clean up, etc. You are all appreciated!
Parents of Loss Support Group meets at St. Mark’s the second Wednesday of each month, at 7:00 p.m.

Our Mug & Muffin Bible Study for July will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd, beginning at 9:30 a.m. We will begin with fellowship, coffee and goodies at 9:30 and the study will begin at 9:45 a.m.
We are using the Bible Study called “Let Us Pray”, found in the Gather magazine. The second session of this Bible series is called “The Practices of Prayer”. In this session, we’ll look at different reasons and ways to pray, what each might offer and how knowing an array of prayer styles can enrich our devotional life.
You don’t need to be a subscriber to take part. Copies will be available at the church. No registration is required.
Dale Raatz will lead the study.
Thank you so much to everyone who helped us pack food for St. Joseph’s summer backpack program on June 19th. We appreciate all of you!! When we send out a request for volunteers here at St Mark’s, people really respond.
Last night we packed just over 1270 bags of food in about 40 minutes. These bags of food will be distributed at different locations on Fridays to be assured children have food for the weekends. Amazing program!
Thank you St Mark’s members!! Thank you to the 22 volunteers that were here from Target in GF. And Pastor Jo from Augustana Lutheran brought some parishioners with here as well.
Thank you all! Our next packing event will be July 17th.
Last week, we had our first packing event for the summer. We take part in the St. Joseph’s Social Care’s summer in the park backpack program. Every Friday they send the kids home with a bag of food containing two meals to assure that they have food for the weekend.
St. Mark’s helps out by packing that food. We had such a great group of St. Mark’s members, Target employees and members of Augustana Lutheran helping us. We packed 1400 bags in 45 minutes! It is one of our favorite programs every year.
We will pack again June 19th and July 17th. What a wonderful program to help fight hunger in our community!
St. Mark’s is working with GF Homes and the Grand Forks Housing Authority, and some other area churches to help supply household items for the new LaGrave on First project. This building will have 42 apartment units and this summer, they are concentrating on getting them set up with the necessities like linens, personal care items, small appliances, kitchen and bath supplies, etc. To be consistent, gift registries were set up through Target.
Our members donated household items from the registry and monetary donations. St. Mark’s is happy to be able to furnish a total of six apartments!
This is a much needed project in our community and they will serve a great need. Registries have been set up for a number of partner organizations, as well as a public registry for those who are not affiliated with any currently participating organizations. The public registry can be found at: tgt.gifts/LaGraveonFirst.

It is back!
Our Mug & Muffin Bible Study series will begin Tuesday, June 5th.
This 3 part series, “Let Us Pray”will be held the first Tuesday of the month over the summer.
We are called to pray, but for what purpose? Is prayer for our benefit or God’s?
This study is found in the “Gather” magazine, but you don’t need to be a subscriber to take part. Copies will be available at the church.
This first session, “The Paradoxes of Prayer” will be held June 5th. We will meet for coffee and fellowship at 9:30 a.m. The study, led by Dale Raatz, will begin at 9:45 a.m.
One of the projects our Education Department works on throughout the year is collecting items and packing gift bags for the Red River Community Action group for their clients.
The bags contain personal hygiene products and other needed items.
A big thank you to the Grand Forks Fiber Arts Guild!! On May 19th, they met to make fleece and knit hats for this project. They did a wonderful job! We are very grateful for their community service!
In September, the St. Mark’s gift bags will be given to Red River Community Action.
Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks is holding a special event
“Called to Respond to our Neighbors in Need”
Sunday, May 20th at Calvary Lutheran (Fellowship Hall) 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Sometimes it takes a tragedy to remind us that we belong to each other and we are called to care for one another.
Do we know what to do if the person in front of us is undergoing a mental health, relationship or financial crisis? What do we say and where do we get help?
Calvary Lutheran has invited a panel of professionals from GF Police Department, CVIC, Grand Forks School District, Altru and North East Human Services to come together to help us. They are eager to share their expertise and resources that can help us to respond to those around us who are struggling.
This event is for young adults and adults. Childcare will be available for young children.
Bring your questions, your concerns, and your desire to be a good neighbor.
All Are Welcome!!
Calvary is located at 1405 South 9th Street. Questions? Call 701-772-4897
Our Sunday School students spent a couple hours at Red River Gymnastics yesterday to celebrate the “near” end of their school term. They had lots of fun! A great place to spend a couple hours!!
